Loved Innocence Lost! This lively novel features a young widow in Prohibition era Philadelphia who is waking up to the fact that not only does she need to find a way to help herself and her young son financially, but she is not the only in her neighborhood struggling to make ends meet. The disappearance of one of her son’s friends kicks off the mystery, taking us through the backyards and kitchens, back alleys and warehouses supporting the black market liquor industry of the Jazz Age. I didn’t find Peggy particularly likable at first, but she starts making changes shortly after the story starts. Without giving too much away, I loved the character of former Police Inspector Frank Geyer and his stories of Philadelphian crimes past.
